Come and try the special delicacies you will be able to enjoy for your wedding in Friuli.
Friuli is a marvelous and unique region: because of its geographical features and complex history it is very varied. Historically this has always been a crossing point of different people and cultures, and each left their “traces” in the typical cuisine of Friuli! Celtic and Illyrians from pre-Roman Age, Romans and Lombards in ancient times, Venetians and Hapsburg in modern history, the typical cuisine of Friuli-Venezia Giulia has always been heavily influenced by Austrian, Hungarian, Slovene, Croatian sometimes even Greek and Jewish gastronomical elements.
The “regional dish” par excellence in Friuli is the so-called polenta, which is a dish prepared with maize flour, but, since this region is very varied, even polenta can greatly change from town to town! Each area of Friuli has its own special dish or special ingredient, but some of them are to be found everywhere: asparagus, radicchio and herbs can be found in many typical dishes of Friuli. Cheese is another typical element of Friuli’s cuisine, we have here our own regional varieties (such as Montasio and mountain cheeses) and then there is “frico”, the typical cheese-based dish of Friuli Venezia Giulia. This special dish, just as polenta, can change greatly from area to area: in fact it can be crispy (and could provide the perfect snack or fingerfood for your wedding reception in Friuli), soft (more apt as second course) or in a special version with potatoes. By the sea you will be able to enjoy a great variety of fishes and seafood from the Adriatic Sea, while throughout Friuli you will be able to taste a great variety of delicious, worldwide famous cured meats. Try our delicious San Daniele ham, the tasteful Sauris ham and speck, or the refined cold cuts of goose (typical of Palmanova): this kind of food is very versatile and can be prepared in such ways that it could provide a perfect entrée, appetizer, snack or even main dish!
A very important factor when planning your perfect wedding in Friuli is carefully choosing the reception menu, and the wine list is by all means no less important! Historically, the production of high quality fine wines has been a permanent feature in Friuli Venezia Giulia over the centuries: even the ancient Roman author Pliny the Elder wrote once that the Roman empress Julia Augusta attributed her long healthy life (she reached the age of 86!) to the Friulan “Refosco”.
So what about a good “tajùt” (a glass of wine, as said in the local language) to make a toast to your future life together? The best wine varieties of the region are “Friulano” aka Sauvignon vert, that is a dry and aromatic white wine, fine wine produced on the region of Collio, “Ramandolo”, a sweet white wine, as well as Verduzzo and Pinot Gris that are no less delicious. All these wine varieties are simply perfect for your wedding reception. And, when getting towards the end of your rich and tasteful wedding reception, there is no better way than turning to DOC and DOP local spirits, the many varieties of Grappa (a sort of fruit brandy) of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
Our philosophy is to promote the excellence of Friuli’s cuisine and fill you and your guests with delight. We simply love good food and we want you to be amazed by our special gastronomical tradition in Friuli.
